New US 31 ribbon cutting set for Wednesday, Aug. 27
You are invited to join Governor Mike Pence, U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski and other dignitaries at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, as they officially cut the ribbon on the New US 31 Plymouth to South Bend freeway. The event will be held at the New US 31 interchange at SR 4.
New US 31 now open
The New US 31 is now open between US 30 in Plymouth and US 20 in South Bend. Some restrictions will remain on the north end of the project near South Bend and the south end near Plymouth through the end of the year as construction continues.
Final US 31 contracts under construction
INDOT has awarded all highway construction contracts to upgrade US 31 between South Bend and Plymouth. Construction to complete this important transportation project is underway and traffic is expected switched to the new lanes by the end of 2014.
The project upgrades and realigns US 31 from US 30 in Plymouth to the US 20 bypass in South Bend. Approximately 15 miles of the 20-mile corridor is being built on new terrain east of the existing route.
The goal of the project is to reduce congestion and improve safety and mobility along the route. This project is part of a larger initiative to upgrade the route to freeway standards from Indianapolis to South Bend.
